Sourced from various vineyards around the town of Alba in Piedmont, Italy. The vineyards are situated at an altitude of 400 metres and face south/south-east.
The soil consists mainly of clay and limestone.
The vines are about 25 years old.In the rustic Serralunga d’Alba, in the heart of the DOCG Barolo, lies the cru Meriame, where Paolo Manzone has planted his Nebbiolo for his main wines.
After careful selection of the grapes, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. The wine then matures for 12 months in French tonneaux. These are large barrels of 350 litres.

The vineyard dates back to 1948 and the vines are sometimes up to 70 years old. Manzone was inspired by Burgundy and makes Barolo wines that mature in French Burgundy barrels.
They are Barolo’s in a rather modern style, which matches the accessible and somewhat earthy style Barolo’s that the Meriame Cru delivers.

In the rustic Serralunga d’Alba, in the heart of the DOCG Barolo, lies the cru Meriame, where Paolo Manzone has planted his Nebbiolo for his most important wines. The vineyard dates back to 1948 and the vines are up to 70 years old. Manzone was inspired by Burgundy and makes Barolo wines that mature in French Burgundy barrels. These are Barolo’s in a rather modern style, matching the accessible and somewhat earthy style Barolo’s that the Meriame Cru provides.

In 1999 Paolo and Luisella Manzone founded the agriturismo Cascina Meriame, named after the Meriame Cru on which the agriturismo and its vineyards are located. At the time, the agriturismo is owned by Luisella’s parents and is clearly in need of renovation. They renovate it completely and build a new winery.
The vineyard area comprises more than ten hectares of vineyards. Some of the vineyards are located in the important cru Meriame where the Barolo’s come from. Other vineyards are located in Sinio, just east of Serralunga.

Because of the relatively small production Paolo is able to have 100% control over every step in the process: from the grape to the sale of his wines. In total Paolo makes 100,000 bottles, 90% of which are eventually exported.

Besides Barolo Manzone also produces Arneis, Dolcetto, Barbera d’Alba, Nebbiolo d’Alba and a Langhe DOC, a blend of Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto.

This has attractive maraschino and some earthy, fresh-truffle nuances with a gun-smoke edge. The palate has fresh, crisp and chalky tannins, carrying supple red cherries. Drink over the next four years.” – James Suckling
